The Role

KGS Group is seeking a Traffic Engineering Lead to help shape the future of mobility in Manitoba and beyond. In this senior role, you’ll guide complex transportation projects, mentor a talented team, and influence how communities move for decades to come. You’ll work with major public-sector clients, including Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure and the City of Winnipeg, as well as a diverse range of municipal and private partners. Reporting to the Transportation Planning Practice Lead, this position oversees projects for a wide range of urban and rural municipalities, and private‑sector clients primarily throughout Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. You will work closely with the Transportation Department in Manitoba and collaborate with KGS Group colleagues across Canada. The role includes supervision and mentorship of engineering and technical staff, contributing to the development of a strong and capable team.

  • Transportation master plans
  • Traffic impact studies
  • Traffic calming initiatives
  • Parking studies
  • Corridor studies
  • Safety assessments and
  • Active transportation planning

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to a diverse portfolio of meaningful and community‑shaping projects that support safer, more efficient, and more sustainable transportation networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Improve corridor performance and safety through data-driven operational analysis
  • Shape transportation master plans that guide long-term growth
  • Lead safety audits and in-service road safety reviews
  • Conduct traffic impact studies and other traffic engineering studies
  • Develop traffic forecasts for roadways and highways, and communicate findings to clients and stakeholders
  • Liaise with team members and the public on transportation issues
  • Prepare study schedules, proposals, and project reports
  • Lead projects and meetings, and make presentations to clients
  • Mentor and supervise staff, collaborating with other departments to develop multidisciplinary solutions

About You

We’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of technical expertise, leadership ability, and communication skills.  Some ideal qualifications could include:

  • Professional engineer (P.Eng.) with a focus on transportation engineering and planning
  • At least 10 years of related experience
  • Proficiency with Synchro. Familiarity with VISSIM, Sidra, and EMME
  • Experience with GIS and AutoCAD
  • Computer programming experience would be an asset (Python, SQL, etc.)
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Ability to engage effectively with the public on transportation issues
  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills
  • Experience mentoring and supervising staff
  • Demonstrated ability to write proposals, technical memos, and technical reports
  • Certifications such as PTP, PTOE or RSP viewed favorably
  • Strong people skills, and the ability to work with wide variety of staff and clients
