The Role

In this opportunity, you will have the ability to complete and manage a variety of small to large mechanical engineering projects and provide effective design solutions for multi-disciplinary projects. This position offers significant opportunity for professional growth including but not limited to managing multi-disciplinary projects, client interaction, business development, and much more depending on your skillset and ambitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design modifications to, or complete replacement of, balance‑of‑plant mechanical systems for industrial facilities such as food processing, general manufacturing, thermal power generation, refinery, chemical processing, and oil and gas operations. Areas of focus may include a variety of topics, such as ASME Code Piping/Boilers/Pressure Vessels, Industrial Ventilation (HVAC), Fuel/Chemical Storage and Handling, Fire Protection, and Material Handling
  • Design of modifications to, or complete replacement of, process‑mechanical systems for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities, including headworks, primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes, biosolids handling systems, and ancillary plant infrastructure. This may include design for water and wastewater pumping stations, including greenfield projects and retrofits
  • Coordinate and prepare P&IDs, PFDs, and other construction‑ready mechanical drawings
  • Prepare and review reports and cost estimates for mechanical systems for municipal and industrial projects
  • Prepare NMS style mechanical specifications for municipal and industrial projects
  • Lead contract administration tasks and liaise between contractors and owner, including review of shop drawings, progress claims, site inspections as well as support commissioning of mechanical equipment at a variety of industrial or wastewater facilities
  • Working collaboratively with other in-house and external disciplines and the project management team, ensuring that quality objectives, schedules and budgets are met. This may include other design teams, owners, and contractors
  • Ability to work independently and solve complex engineering problems with limited oversight
  • Managing and executing multiple projects from the proposal stage through to completion
  • Pursuing new business opportunities with new and existing clients through opportunity identification and preparation of proposals
  • Managing and mentoring junior engineering and drafting staff

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights could include:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university
  • Registered (or eligible to become registered) with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Registration in other Canadian provinces would be an additional asset
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience, 12+ years preferred, in mechanical engineering with demonstrated technical (data analysis, code and regulations reviews, design calculations, technical report writing) and project management skills (writing project progress reports, tracking budgets and maintaining schedules)
  • Experience with some of the following aspects of mechanical engineering: pumps, pressure vessels, boilers, heat exchangers, tanks, building plumbing, ventilation/HVAC, material handling, and fire protection (sprinklers, pumps, storage tanks and code reviews) in industrial facilities are preferred but other types of mechanical design experience for industrial facilities will also be considered
  • Working knowledge of codes and standards governing process‑mechanical systems, including ASME, National Building/Fire/Plumbing Codes, NFPA, and other applicable provincial and federal standards
  • Previous consulting experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience working on projects for the City of Winnipeg is an asset, but not a requirement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, including the ability to adapt to the challenges of a variety of different projects from clients in many different industries.
  • Demonstrated experience in site investigations, condition assessments, design and construction support is preferred
  • Travel to project sites is usually limited but is required depending on project/client requirements
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks
  • Ability to demonstrate competency as a multidiscipline generalist would be a strong asset to the role in our multidiscipline organization
