About Us

We are an employee-owned, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm serving clients across North America and beyond. Our team of engineers, scientists, technologists and support staff is dedicated to excellence in engineering and project management.

Working with us means you’ll be part of some of the most interesting projects across Canada, the U.S. and beyond. We believe we set our own boundaries by what we’re willing to attempt and strive to push the limit on what’s possible. That’s the KGS way.

The Role

KGS Group is seeking a Junior Municipal Design Drafter to join our Municipal team in our Thunder Bay or Winnipeg office and support municipal infrastructure and multidisciplinary projects through 2D drafting, Civil 3D modelling, drawing updates, and hands-on technical support.

In this role, you will support the design, modelling, and drafting of municipal infrastructure projects while developing your knowledge of municipal design standards, drawing production, and Civil 3D workflows.

Projects may include municipal infrastructure upgrades, water and wastewater systems, land drainage works, subdivision developments, infill developments, site servicing, and land development projects. You will work on projects that help build your technical knowledge while expanding your experience through mentorship from senior designers, technologists, and engineers. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys drafting, technical design, Civil 3D modelling, collaboration, and learning through practical project experience.

This role provides a strong foundation for a career in municipal design drafting, supported by mentorship, structured learning, and hands-on experience with both 2D drafting and 3D Civil 3D design tools.

As you grow in this role, you will:

  • Develop confidence preparing municipal design drawings, figures, details, profiles, and Civil 3D model updates
  • Build strong working relationships with designers, technologists, engineers, project managers, and technical leads
  • Contribute to successful project delivery by preparing accurate drawings, updating Civil 3D model information, and responding to project team feedback
  • Demonstrate increasing independence, accuracy, organization, and understanding of municipal drafting standards and Civil 3D workflows
  • Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary team members to support integrated project drawings and deliverables
  • Continue developing toward greater responsibility in municipal design drafting through mentorship, feedback, and hands on project experience

Key Responsibilities

As a Junior Municipal Design Drafter, you will support the preparation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure drawings and Civil 3D models while developing your technical design drafting skills through hands on project work and mentorship. This role is well suited to a recent graduate or early career candidate with 0–3 years of experience who is interested in building a career in municipal design drafting using both 2D and 3D aspects of AutoCAD Civil 3D.

  • Assist with municipal design drafting during proposal, preliminary design, detailed design, and record drawing stages, under the guidance of senior staff
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, technologists, designers, and other disciplines to support coordinated project deliverables
  • Support design drafting for small to large municipal projects, including sewer, water, land drainage, transportation, site servicing, and land development projects
  • Prepare and revise 2D drawings, report figures, plan/profile sheets, details, and other drafting deliverables based on markups and direction from designers, technologists, and engineers
  • Develop and update Civil 3D drawings and models, including surfaces, alignments, profiles, grading features, and pipe networks, with support and review from senior staff
  • Assist with quantity take-offs, drawing checks, and basic design information, presenting work in a clear, logical, and organized manner
  • Help manage project data, including drawing files, Civil 3D models, survey information, design calculations, standards, and reference materials
  • Assist multiple designers in the department with drawing production, model updates, drafting markups, and coordination tasks
  • Review drawings for consistency with KGS Group, client, and municipal drafting standards, with an emphasis on quality, accuracy, and project schedules

  • Diploma in CAD, Civil Engineering Technology, Municipal Engineering Technology, or a related program from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • 0–3 years of experience in civil or municipal design drafting; recent graduates with strong technical skills and an interest in municipal infrastructure are encouraged to apply
  • Eligibility for C.Tech. and/or C.E.T. registration in Manitoba/Ontario would be considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D, including exposure to both 2D drafting and 3D design tools such as surfaces, alignments, profiles, grading features, and pipe networks
  • Coursework, co-op, internship, or project experience related to municipal servicing, roadways, grading, drainage, land development, or construction drawings would be considered an asset
  • Experience working with survey data, terrain models, drafting markups, or engineering design files would be considered an asset
  • A willingness to learn municipal design standards, drafting workflows, quality control practices, and Civil 3D modelling processes
