The Role

We are looking for an Intermediate Engineer with a focus on Water and Wastewater Process to join our well-established Municipal Department. This position can be located in our Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, or Mississauga offices.

In this role you will you will be responsible for supporting municipal water and wastewater treatment and conveyance projects from the proposal stage through to all stages of implementation. Projects will include feasibility studies and full scope engineering projects including preliminary and detailed design, construction contract administration, commissioning support, and final delivery.

You will work on design projects that both build on your existing knowledge and expand your engineering experience through mentorship from our senior staff. You will work collaboratively on projects within the municipal department as well as on multi-disciplinary projects with the various other departments at KGS Group. Depending on your personal career path, you will (under the leadership of our senior engineers) focus on design development or take on project management responsibilities. Opportunities will continue to be provided to expand your knowledge and participate in larger municipal infrastructure projects catering to your interests.

As part of your role in consulting, you will be responsible for ensuring project objectives, schedules and budgets are met. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to interface directly with clients that include large and small municipalities, First Nations, provincial and federal organizations, and private industry. You will prepare designs, reports, studies, and contract documents. You will be part of a team that delivers innovative solutions for our clients. All of this will take place in our friendly, collaborative work environment where you will work together with your colleagues in the Municipal Department as well as other disciplines to get the job done.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete studies and develop designs that support a multidisciplinary team, or act as lead designer on appropriately sized municipal infrastructure projects related to water and wastewater treatment, pumping, and linear infrastructure
  • Work with and provide guidance to our junior staff
  • Participate in and promote KGS Group’s safety-first culture

About You

The ideal applicant will bring a strong mix of qualifications and previous experiences, including the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, biosystems, or environmental engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • P.Eng. designation
  • 5-8 years of related work experience in the planning, design and implementation of water and wastewater treatment, pumping and linear projects including some or all the following:
    • Water and Wastewater Treatment System Design (Including Vendor-Supported Packaged Systems)
    • Facultative and Aerated Wastewater Treatment Lagoon Design
    • Lift Station and Forcemain Design
    • Water Distribution Pumping and Distribution System Design
    • On-Site Wastewater Disposal System Design
    • Municipal Water and Wastewater Feasibility Studies and System Assessments
  • Previous project management experience will be considered an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate design tasks and mentor junior staff
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Proficiency in water or wastewater modeling software is considered an asset

The salary for this role is between $95,000 to $130,000 annually.
