The Role
We are looking for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our commercial Mechanical and Electrical department in our Winnipeg office. In this role you will provide technical support within the group while progressively developing project management capabilities. The successful candidate will expand their technical expertise and professional skills under the mentorship of Senior Engineers. This role offers a collaborative and professional work environment, with opportunities to engage directly with clients and contribute to successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the management of multiple commercial mechanical projects from proposal through completion, including budget development, schedule coordination, and client relationship management
- Provide construction administration services, including facilitating meetings, reviewing shop drawings and progress claims, liaising with contractors and owners, conducting site inspections, and supporting substantial completion activities
- Design modifications to existing mechanical systems and develop new mechanical systems for commercial and institutional construction projects
- Prepare, review, and contribute to technical specifications, reports, and related project documentation
- Prepare and review engineering drawings in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards
- Conduct mechanical engineering analysis and design for projects across a range of sectors and industries
- Collaborate with internal disciplines and project management teams to support successful delivery within established schedules and budgets
- Work directly with client groups, including architects, owners, and contractors
- Support the pursuit of new business opportunities with both new and existing clients
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, as appropriate
About You
The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of technical qualifications, relevant experience, and professional skills. Key qualifications and experience include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university
- Five to ten years of mechanical engineering experience, with demonstrated technical capabilities in data analysis, code and regulatory reviews, design calculations, and technical report writing, as well as project management skills related to progress reporting, budget tracking, and schedule management
- Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of Manitoba (APEGM) or Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS). Consideration will be given to applicants registered as Licensee Members (Eng.L); applicants must provide a copy of their Scope of Professional Practice with their application. Registration in other Canadian provinces would be considered an asset
- Previous consulting experience is preferred
- Demonstrated experience in site investigations, condition assessments, design, and construction support is preferred
- Demonstrated mechanical design experience with HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for renovation and greenfield projects
- Experience with various project delivery models, including design-bid-build, construction management, and design-build
- Construction administration experience, including preparing addenda, proposed change notices, site instructions, and related documentation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt to and successfully support a variety of projects for clients across multiple industries
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience working with architects
- Experience contributing to multi-disciplinary projects
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as required based on project and client needs
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness and ability to undergo security clearance checks, as required
