The Role
We are looking for an Electrical Engineering Technologist to join our Electrical Department in our Winnipeg office. In this role you will prepare engineering models, drawings and documents, perform site inspections to gather data, and assist senior electrical engineers with project specific tasks. You will assist in creating and performing changes to drawings in both 2D plans in AutoCAD and 3D models in Revit. A good working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD is required. You will work to complete tasks independently as well as collaborate as part of a design team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare engineering models and drawings with Revit and AutoCAD
- Perform various design tasks for new and modified electrical systems
- Working in a team environment on multi-discipline projects, coordinate designs with other disciplines when preparing drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications
- Perform site visits for data gathering to prepare drawings, specifications, analysis and reports
- Perform field inspections to confirm compliance with drawings and specifications. Will summarize field observations and measurements in reports and/or integrate them into designs
- Perform basic calculations and present them in a logical and organized manner
- Assist with electrical construction administration to coordinate with contractors, review shop drawings and respond to contractor questions
- Effectively and accurately communicate information and ideas
About You
- Graduate from an Electrical Engineering Technology program with a focus on electrical systems design
- CET registration in Manitoba, other provinces, or the US would be considered an asset
- 3-5 years’ experience in electrical systems design with demonstrated technical abilities (Revit, AutoCAD, analysis, code and regulations reviews, design calculations, technical report writing)
- Successfully work to meet tight deadlines while producing accurate and highly detailed drawings and technical documents
- Work efficiently and effectively with little supervision, as an individual and with a team
- Capable of visualizing and communicating complex details
- Willingness and ability to learn new software programs
- Effective oral and written communication
- Availability to periodically travel to project sites, typically for half day or one day site visits, and occasionally for longer periods
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks
- Strong commitment to a high quality of work
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Additional assets include:
- Previous work experience or familiarity with building electrical distribution, lighting systems, MV or HV applications, generators, transformers, switchgear, MCC’s, PLC automation, SCADA, or control systems
- Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code
- Prior experience with Autodesk Forma
- Prior experience with other 3D modeling or drafting software platforms
- Knowledge of electrical construction
