The Role

In this role, you will serve as a technical leader and project contributor within our hydro and utility infrastructure practice. You will work on complex structural systems for dams, spillways, water conveyance systems, and hydroelectric facilities while collaborating across disciplines to deliver high-quality solutions.

This role offers a strong balance of technical leadership, project management, and client engagement, with opportunities to grow into expanded leadership and business development responsibilities over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural analysis and design for concrete and steel infrastructure systems, including dams, spillways, gates, canals, and hydraulic structures
  • Apply knowledge of seismic loading, structural resilience, and applicable design codes (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC)
  • Perform site inspections, condition assessments, and develop rehabilitation strategies for existing infrastructure
  • Prepare and review calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and external partners to deliver complex infrastructure projects
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and contribute to technical development within the team
  • Support proposal development, client presentations, and business development initiatives (as desired)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with utility and infrastructure clients

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree is a plus)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) license is a plus
  • 8–12+ years of structural engineering experience
  • Strong experience with concrete and steel design for infrastructure projects
  • Experience with hydroelectric facilities, heavy civil, or utility infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with structural design software (RISA, SAP2000, or similar)
  • Knowledge of seismic design principles and structural codes relevant to the west coast region
  • Proven project management and leadership experience
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Working locations and offices will depend on the applicant; attendance at a KGS Group office regularly is encouraged to strengthen the mentorship and development of staff and travel to various outdoor sites and durations at the sites will be determined by project and individual needs
  • Experience with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Guidelines and working on dam safety in the USA are an asset

The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $175,000 annually.
