The Opportunity
We are looking for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Department in our Mississauga office. In this role, you’ll manage and support multi-disciplinary projects from the proposal stage through to completion, including establishment and maintenance of budgets and schedules. Working in a team environment, you will ensure projects are completed within allotted schedules and budgets, and up to high-quality standards.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Design modifications to,or entirely new, electrical systems related to hydroelectric and heavy industrial projects
- Support the delivery of multiple projects involving hydroelectric power generation, transmission, and distribution systems, from proposal development through to project completion
- Support substation layout development and the installation of high and medium voltage equipment
- Prepare high-voltage, medium-voltage and low-voltage single line diagrams with protection & relaying
- Prepare equipment schematic diagrams and terminal wiring diagrams
- Design substation grounding using CEDEGS software
- Conduct power system analysis, short circuit, load flow, arc flash, and motor starting studies using ETAP or EasyPower
- Familiarity with PSCAD and PSSI tools for dynamic analysis would be an asset
- Provide construction support services, including reviewing shop drawings, coordinating communication between contractors and the owner, and conducting site inspections
- Prepare and review specifications and reports
- Work collaboratively with other disciplines to execute project deliverables, as well as ensuring that quality objectives, schedules and budgets are met
- Manage and mentor junior staff
About You
To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant bringing forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights could include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university; a postgraduate degree is an asset
- Preferred 5+ years’ experience in electrical engineering
- Registered or eligible to become registered with Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), registration in other Canadian provinces would be an asset
- Previous consulting experience is preferred
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated experience in site investigations, condition assessments, design and construction support is preferred
- Detailed knowledge of power distribution systems up to medium-voltage level
- Knowledge of hydro stations is an asset
- Previous experience with power systems studies is an asset
- Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Codes and relevant electrical standards
- Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects is preferred
- Travel to project sites is usually limited but is required depending on project/client requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks
Salary
The salary range for this role is between $95,000 to $130,000 annually.
