The Role
In this role, you will independently manage and support commercial, multidisciplinary projects from the proposal stage through to completion. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining project budgets and schedules, with guidance and review from senior engineers.
You will continue to develop your technical and project management skills, with mentorship and support available from experienced senior engineers. Project work will primarily focus on residential and commercial markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently managing commercial projects from proposal through completion, including developing budgets and maintaining client relationships is considered a strong asset
- Lead and support a variety of small to large commercial projects, with a primary focus on residential and commercial markets
- Provide construction phase services, including review of shop drawings, progress claims, coordination between contractors and owners, and site inspections through to substantial completion
- Design modifications to existing electrical systems and develop new electrical system designs for commercial construction projects
- Prepare and review technical specifications, reports, and engineering documentation
- Develop, check, and approve electrical engineering drawings
- Perform electrical engineering analysis and design across a broad range of industry sectors
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project schedules and budgets are met
- Liaise directly with clients, including architects, owners, and contractors
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff as required
About You
To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights could include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university
- 5–10 years of consulting experience in electrical engineering, with demonstrated technical expertise in data analysis, code and regulatory reviews, design calculations, and technical report writing, as well as project management experience involving budgets, schedules, and project delivery
- Registered, or eligible for registration, with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba (Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Applicants registered as Licensee Members (Eng. L) will also be considered and must provide a copy of their Scope of Professional Practice. Registration in other Canadian provinces is considered an asset
- Previous consulting experience in residential and commercial building projects is required
- Demonstrated experience in site investigations, condition assessments, design development, and construction support services
- Strong experience in the design of electrical power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm systems
- Experience with data/communications systems, surveillance camera systems, and access control systems is considered a strong asset
- Experience delivering projects under various contract models, including Design-Bid-Build, Construction Management, and Design-Build
- Construction administration experience, including preparation of addenda, proposed change notices, site instructions, and related contract documentation
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to a diverse range of projects and clients across various industries
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience collaborating with architects and working within multidisciplinary project teams
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as required. This position is primarily office-based, with occasional travel depending on project and client requirements
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances, including RCMP and PSPC clearances
